| Obituary: | Mr. Jack Donald “Don” Lipscomb age 90 years a resident of Laurel View Apartments in Belington, WV departed this life 10:15pm Monday May 24, 2010 in the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center. He had been in declining health for quite sometime. He was born February 1, 1920 at Junior, WV a son of the late Gilbert Filmore Lipscomb Sr. and Anna Loma Williams Lipscomb. Mr. Lipscomb was married April 27, 1940 at Monterey, VA to the former Lillian Pearl White who resides at their home in Belington. They had recently celebrated 70 years of marriage. Mr. Lipscomb is survived by two sons Jack Lipscomb and wife Karen of Ft. Myers, Florida, Randall Lipscomb and wife Nancy of Akron Oh., and two daughters in law Martha Lipscomb, of Pembroke Pines, Florida, and Renee Dellquist of Platte City Missouri. Nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several step grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by two sons David Lipscomb, Jeffrey Alan Lipscomb and one grandson. He also was preceded in death by three sisters Lois Shomo, Dale Hillyard, Freda Shomo; five brothers Leon L. Lipscomb, Sammie Lipscomb, Grant Lipscomb, Lindey Lipscomb and G.F. “Jay” Lipscomb. He was the last surviving member of the his immediate family Mr. Lipscomb graduated from the Belington High School with the class of 1938. He was a Corpman in the US Navy during WWII, and retired from Kesselring Dairy in Akron Ohio. Upon his retirement he then managed an apartment complex in Cleveland Oh. While living in Ohio Don was very active with the Boy Scouts of America. Don and his wife Pearl returned to Barbour County in 1981 where he served in the Belington Kiwanis Club and was as a past club secretary and past LT. Governor. He was a very active member in the Asbury United Methodist Church where he was a faithful member of the choir and was very active in the Methodist Men’s Group. Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 210 Brandenburg Street in Belington from 6-9pm on Thursday May 27, 2010 and on Friday until 12pm at which time he will be moved to the Asbury United Methodist Church where friends may call from 1-2pm the funeral hour when services will be conducted with the Rev. Robert Baer Jr. and the Rev. Arden Beck officiating. Mr. Lipscomb’s wishes for cremation will then be honored. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church 512 Beverly Pike Belington, WV. 26250. | Mark P. Joseph [2010-05-26 18:48:50] I did not know Mr. Lipscomb, but I read where he served as a navy corpsman during World War II. My Father, Paul Joseph also served in the navy during World War II. Those living in our country today owe our freedom and prosperity to those gentlemen like Mr. Lipscomb who put their lives on the line to save our Country. I will pray for his family and his soul and am happy that he is with our Lord and suffering no more. |
