| Obituary: | Mr. Alfred John Griffith Jr. age 82 years a resident of Laurel Mt. Road near Belington departed this life Friday afternoon, April 2, 2010 at his residence. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected. He was born February 18, 1928 on Dogtown Road near Belington, a son of the late Alfred John Griffith Sr. and Julia Virginia (Pirchan) Griffith. He was twice married. First to the former JoAnn Coyle and second to the former Ida Harris who survives at their home near Belington. Mr. Griffith is survived by one son, Russell S. Griffith and companion Janeane of Phoenix, Arizona; one daughter Paula Zalenski and husband Steven of Pembroke, Massachusetts; four step children Paul B. Moore Jr. and wife Susan of Elyria, OH, Regina Tenney and husband Tim of Buckhannon, Martin Moore and wife Dawn of Alton, NH, Scott Moore and companion Michelle of Junior, WV. Also Surviving are three brothers Ronald Lee Griffith of Jamestown, PA., Jerry Griffith of Melbourne, FL., Larry Dewayne Griffith of Belington, WV. four sisters Edna Ricottilli of Belington, WV., JoAnn Toohey of Dorchester, MA., Julia Marie Snider of Philippi, WV., Linda Knight of Beverly, four grandchildren, nine step grandchildren; three great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter Maryland Griffith, two brothers Joe and Bill Griffith. Mr. Griffith was a graduate of Belington High School and drove truck for Carol Van Lines in Massachusetts. Later in life he was employed as a supervisor for Ken Auvil Homes and later became a self employed carpenter. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the US Navy aboard the USS Worcester. He was protestant by faith and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post # 410 and the American Legion Post # 96 both of Belington. Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 210 Brandenburg St. in Belington from 4 pm to 9 pm on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 and again on Wednesday from 8 am to 11:00 am. At 1:00 pm on Wednesday a graveside service will be conducted from Laurel Hill near Mr. Griffith’s Farm with the Rev. Arden Beck officiating, interment will follow. Full military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 44 and American Legion Post # 96.
