| Obituary: | Talbott Funeral Home 210 Brandenburg St. P.O. Box 879 Belington, WV 26250 (304)823-1401 Michael W. Talbott Licensee in Charge Funeral Home Director and Embalmer Aurel Louise Shaffer, 89, died May 7, 2009 at the Knox Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. A graveside memorial service will be held at the Valley Bend Baptist Church in Belington, West Virginia on May 29, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Joseph Bowman officiating. She will be interned beside her husband, Alvey B. Shaffer Sr., and son Charles Wayne Shaffer who preceded her in death. Mrs. Shaffer was born September 22, 1919 in Belington, West Virginia to Opha and Bessie Chenoweth. She was the oldest of five children, three sisters and one brother. Martha Mason (deceased), Loretta Coontz of W. V., Jean Holbert of W. V., and Carl “Bud” Chenoweth (deceased). Mrs. Shaffer was wed to Alvey B. Shaffer Sr. on September 13, 1949 and started a family. They moved from West Virginia to Ohio in 1960 and she worked in Loudonville, Ohio at the Haven of Rest Nursing Home for several years. After taking a job in Holmesville, Ohio at Addressograph-Multigraph and working as an assistant foreman she attended and graduated from nursing school in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. She remained employed for 14 years at Addressograph-Multigraph until retiring in 1982. She was always deeply devoted to the Lord and regularly read her Bible and attended Church. She enjoyed working with her hands and always kept busy. Among her favorite things to do were crocheting, crossword puzzles, scrabble, music and reading. She also loved gardening and fishing. It was often said by people who knew her that they came away with a better feeling after talking with her. She is survived by three children, a son Alvey B. Shaffer Jr. of Ohio, son Rev. Dewey L. Shaffer and spouse Norene of Oklahoma, daughter Barbara J. Hinds Ohio, five grandchildren, Michelle Kelly and husband John of Ohio, Annette Thacker and husband Brett of Ohio, Adam Shaffer and wife Michel of Oklahoma, Amy Shaffer of Oklahoma, Bill Hinds and wife Leah of Ohio, nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and cousins and friends who will all miss her very much. The family asks that In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church 124 South Market Street Loudonville, OH. 44842 memory of Mrs. Shaffer.
