| Obituary: | Talbott Funeral Home 210 Brandenburg St. P.O. Box 879 Belington, WV 26250 (304)823-1401 Michael W. Talbott Licensee in Charge Funeral Home Director and Embalmer Mrs. Dora Ward Hamrick Canterbury age 96 years a former resident of 206 Hice Street in Belington and for the past 2 years a resident of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center departed this life early Saturday Morning April 4th 2009, at the care facility. She was born March 18, 1913 at Webster Springs W.V. a daughter of the late Hanson and Daisy Hamrick. On December 2, 1933 she was united in marriage to Eddie S. Canterbury who preceded her in death October of 1973. Also preceding her in death were two sisters Connie Jolly, and Mattie Turner and two brothers, Hardy and Arlie Hamrick.She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are eight children Ruth Coontz and husband William L, Belington; Eddie Canterbury and wife Jeanie, Belington, Vickie Clutter, and husband Bob, Clarksburg; Carolyn Canterbury, Martinsburg; Kenneth R. Canterbury, and wife Marlene, Berea, Kentucky; Dorothy Ware and husband Skip; Falling Waters , WV; Doris McWhorter and husband John, Belington; Victor Canterbury and wife Linda, Nitro; one sister-in-law Dorothy Hamrick of Valley Head, 23 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Canterbury was a homemaker and attended Light of Christ Chapel where she sang in the church choir and served in the group. Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 210 Brandenburg St. in Belington on Monday April 6, 2009 from 5-9 pm and on Tuesday at the Light of Christ Chapel in Belington from 10 to 11am the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the church with the Rev. Jimmie E. Tallman officiating. Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington. The family ask that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Barbour County Good Samaritan, RR 1 box 15C, Belington, WV 26250. Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Dora Ward Hamrick Canterbury.
