| Obituary: | Mrs. Gladys Phares McCauley age 106 years a resident of 1341 Rail Road Street in Grafton and more recently of the Rosewood Nursing Center in Grafton departed this life 2am Tuesday October 7th 2008 in the care facility. She was born June 1st 1902 at the Stone Coal Community near Belington a daughter of the late James T. and Clara Wilson Phares. In 1927 she was united in marriage to Christopher Columbus McCauley who preceded her in death in 1972. She is survived by one son James K. McCauley and wife Avonelle of Grafton, one daughter Thelma Nutter of Bridgeport , two sisters Wilda McCauley of Grafton, and Helen McCauley of Elkins. Additional survivors include seven grandchildren , seven great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews . In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by one son Maynard McCauley, one daughter, Opal Shaffer, three brothers Paul Phares, Lee Don Phares, and Earl Phares and three sisters Celia Durrett, Hallie Rowan, and Katherine Phares. Mrs. McCauley attended the schools of Barbour County was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church in Belington and was a homemaker most of her adult life. Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 210 Brandenburg Street in Belington from 7-9pm on Wednesday October 8th 2008 and on Thursday until 1pm the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jeff Johnson officiating . Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery near Belington.
